Parliamentary Visit
Local landscape specialist gains national platform for eco-campaign
Staffordshire landscaper Mitch Westwood of Brocton based Westwood Solutions is set to highlight the benefits of rain harvesting and sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) to members of the Government at a high profile reception held by the All Party Parliamentary Gardening & Horticulture Group at the House of Commons on November 26th.
The reception will be addressed by Ian Pearson, Minister for Climate Change &The Environment and will be attended by Members of Parliament including Lord Richard Livesey of Talgarth, Julie Kirkbride, Iain Duncan-Smith and Brian Donahoe. Also attending will be representatives from BALI (British Association of Landscape Industries), The Institute of Horticulture, the RHS, The Royal Parks and BBC gardening gurus, Charlie Dimmock and Joe Swift.
"The Government has been quick to advise us about what we should be planting in our gardens in the light of increasing water shortage and climate change/' Mitch points out, "but with environmentally friendly measures such as rain harvesting and effective irrigation systems, we can continue to enjoy the traditional plants and shrubs that characterise English gardens. In my view, the proposed 'Green Taxes' should be used to invest in projects such as Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems that collect the rainwater running off the increasing areas of hard landscaped carparks and other paved areas to be stored and re-used."
Mitch has also been invited to address a "Sustainability Summif, chaired by the Sunday Times Inside Out magazine, on the subject of Sustainable Urban Drainage. The Summit, which will be held on November 16th, has been organised by Marshalls pic, the UK's leading transformation company, specialising in hard landscape products. |
